Extra-Murals Overview
Extra-Murals
Sport at Sweet Valley is seen as an extension of the curriculum and the educational experience we aim to provide. While sport is not compulsory, it is strongly encouraged, and a majority of our pupils are involved in one or more sports. We believe that children should experience as many different sports as possible in their Junior school years, before they have to make a narrower choice in High school.
Sports offered include tennis, cricket, athletics, swimming, hockey, rugby, cross-country, squash, netball and gymnastics. While we have limited facilities on the school property, we are able to utilise the facilities at both Meadowridge and Bergvliet Sports Clubs.
We are very proud of our indoor, heated swimming pool, and pupils are able to train before school throughout the year.
From U10 level, and earlier in some sports, teams are entered in the inter-school leagues. Over the past 10 years, sport at Sweet Valley has consciously been promoted, and we are very competitive in the leagues. While we are mindful of the educational value of sport, teams are chosen on merit.
School awards may be made to those pupils representing the school 1st teams, but all pupils who achieve will be publicly recognised.
A highlight on the sporting calendar is the annual 1st team tour - the 1st teams of boys' and girls' hockey, netball and rugby - of the Eastern and Western Cape at the start of the third term.
